Reindeer Mystery

We see a lot of pictures of reindeer around Christmastime. Why reindeer? Well, they are beautiful, silently alert in the snow and they have a mysterious, majestic quality that I love. Not that I’ve ever actually seen one. But creatures in the imagination are that much more powerful, don’t you think?

This picture of a deer comes from an ancient Native American petroglyph.

I lay out the colors on three plates, and use different combinations for each print. There’s a delicate balance between getting an atmospheric effect, and erring too faint or too dark. Each one is a surprise to me.

Welcome to my blog where I write about the art and craft of my business. My goal is to make beautiful things, to make art part of everyday life, and to make my friends and family smile. Not necessarily in that order.

I love these cards. They make me think of catching sight of a deer through the mist.
